Event description |
This course aims to provide the opportunity for carers to safely explore, reflect and develop the skill, knowledge and values needed to care safely and effectively for a child transracially placed. In order to give children a positive view of self, others, emotional resilience and knowledge and understanding of their background.
PLEASE NOTE THIS TRAINING WILL RUN OVER TWO SESSIONS ON TUE 8TH AND WED 9TH MARCH |
Training objectives |
By the end of this course, Carers will be able to:
- Explain their motivation for caring for a child or a different race or culture;
- Define prejudice, unfair-discrimination, racism and bias;
- List any unique needs children of different races and cultural groups may have and explain practical ways of meeting these;
- Identify any emotional needs the child trans-racially placed may have and demonstrate how they would meet these;
- List different means of obtaining support when caring for children from different racial and cultural groups; and
- Mapp out the racial and cultural mix of the area in which they live, and indicate whether there will be role models, peers and positive experiential opportunities within the community for the child and carer
